7-Day / 6-Night Western Tanzania Safari
Day 1: Arrival in Arusha / Dar – Fly to Katavi National Park
After a short morning briefing, board a scheduled bush flight from Arusha or Dar es Salaam to Katavi National Park. Upon landing, enjoy a scenic game drive en route to your secluded safari lodge or tented camp. After lunch, embark on an afternoon game drive in this unspoiled savannah, home to massive buffalo herds, crocodile-packed rivers, and frequent lion and leopard sightings. Dinner and overnight in the heart of the park.
Day 2–3: Explore Katavi – Big Game and Remote Landscapes
Spend two full days enjoying morning and afternoon game drives across the wild plains and woodlands of Katavi. This remote park offers low tourist numbers and high wildlife density, ideal for intimate sightings of hippos, elephants, hyenas, and birdlife. You may also enjoy guided walking safaris, picnics by seasonal rivers, or sundowners overlooking herds of grazing game. Each night, return to your camp for a starlit dinner and storytelling by the fire.
Day 4: Katavi – Fly to Mahale Mountains National Park
After breakfast, take a scenic bush flight south to the Mahale Mountains, where lush green peaks meet the turquoise waters of Lake Tanganyika. On arrival, transfer by boat along the lake to your lakeside lodge or luxury tented camp. Spend your afternoon relaxing on the beach, swimming, or kayaking in Africa’s deepest lake. Enjoy a quiet dinner with views of the water and forested hills beyond.
Day 5–6: Mahale Chimpanzee Tracking & Lake Activities
Spend the next two days tracking wild chimpanzees in their natural forest habitat, accompanied by expert guides and trackers. Trek through humid montane forest, listening for calls and rustling branches. Once found, spend up to one hour observing a family group as they feed, groom, and play — a rare and emotional experience. In the afternoons, enjoy snorkeling, kayaking, birdwatching, or simply relax on the beach with a book. Mahale offers a serene blend of wildlife and lake-based leisure.
Day 7: Mahale – Fly Back to Arusha / Dar es Salaam
After a final breakfast by the lake, transfer by boat back to the airstrip and board your return bush flight to Arusha or Dar es Salaam, arriving in the late afternoon. Connect to your international flight or enjoy an optional overnight stay.
