5-Day / 4-Night Mount Kenya Climbing Safari
Day 1: Nairobi – Drive to Sirimon Gate – Trek to Old Moses Camp (3,300m)
Depart Nairobi in the morning and drive north through the Central Highlands to Sirimon Gate (2,650m), the starting point of your trek. After park registration and lunch, begin a gentle hike through montane forest and bamboo zones toward Old Moses Camp. This 3–4 hour trek (9 km) offers a good acclimatization start and stunning views of the valley below.
Day 2: Old Moses – Shipton’s Camp (4,200m)
After breakfast, begin your steady ascent through moorland and across scenic ridges. Cross the Mackinder’s Valley, surrounded by unique alpine vegetation like giant lobelias and groundsels. Arrive at Shipton’s Camp, nestled beneath the dramatic peaks of Batian and Nelion, in time for a hot meal and rest before summit day. (Trekking time: 6–8 hours)
Day 3: Acclimatization Day at Shipton’s Camp
Spend the day acclimatizing at high altitude with optional short hikes to nearby ridges or Hausberg Tarn. This rest day improves your chances of a successful summit and gives time to enjoy the alpine surroundings. Overnight at Shipton’s Camp with meals and gear prep for summit night.
Day 4: Summit Point Lenana (4,985m) – Descend to Meru Mount Kenya Bandas (2,950m)
Begin your pre-dawn summit attempt around 3:00 AM, ascending to Point Lenana, the trekkers’ peak, in time for sunrise views over the plains, Mount Kilimanjaro (on clear days), and the glaciers below. After a photo session and celebration at the summit, descend along the beautiful Chogoria Route, stopping for breakfast and rest at Hall Tarns before continuing to the Meru Mount Kenya Bandas for a warm shower and overnight in cozy mountain cabins. (Total trekking: 10–12 hours)
Day 5: Exit Park – Return to Nairobi
After breakfast, enjoy a scenic nature walk or short forest hike before being picked up for the return drive to Nairobi via Chogoria town. Arrive in the afternoon and drop-off at your hotel or residence, concluding your epic Mount Kenya adventure.
